In addition to the normal six strings, this guitar has two, lower-tuned strings to add range. This type of guitar is commonly used in progressive metal by bands like Animals as Leaders, Periphery, and Meshuggah.

Like the six-string that I built, this guitar has a multiscale fret pattern. This becomes even more important on an extended-range guitar, as the extremely low notes would be unplayable on a shorter scale length.
